Intro:

Peanut butter, chocolate and sugar...  nuff said! Usually make these cookies for special occasions like Christmas and Eid but with Hershey's kisses. Changed them up for Valentines Day and used Dove chocolate hearts instead. Same delicious cookie with a new festive look.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp. Baking Powder
  • 6 Tbsp. Unsalted Butter (Room Temp.)
  • 7 Tbsp. Crisco Veg Shortening
  • 1/3 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar for Rolling Cookies
  • 1 Package of Dove Chocolate Hearts (approx. 32)

Baking Instructions:

1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2.) In a medium size bowl combine flour, salt and baking powder.
3.) In a large mixing bowl using a stand mixer (what I used) or a handheld mixer and combine the butter, shortening and peanut butter until all ingredients are mixed.
4.) Add brown sugar and mix until smooth.
5.) Mix in the egg and vanilla for 2 minutes.
6.) Slowly add the flour mixture 1/3rd at a time until fully incorporated.
7.) Make 1.5 inch balls (can use cookie scoop or large spoon) and roll in granulated sugar.
8.) Place cookies 1.5 inch apart on lined baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
9.) While cookies are baking unwrap chocolate hearts.
10.) Once cookies are hot out of the oven gently press a chocolate heart in the center.
11.) Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes on cookie sheet and transfer to cooling rack. Chocolate will be hot and melty and needs to cool and set.
